writers guidelines

Luggage and Lipstick accepts quality guest and sponsored posts that integrate with our theme and demographics.  We are all about fun!  We want to hear all about your fantastic adventures!

Guest Posts

Please note the following criteria:

  • Please send us a complete pitch with your idea before sending your completed piece.  We will let you know as soon as possible if your idea fits with the Luggage and Lipstick site.

If accepted:

  • Our demographic is baby boomers so write to that target audience.
  • Quality destination content (no service pieces like packing tips, airline hacks, etc.) must be original and not published anywhere else online or with the intent to re-publish.
  • You must have visited the destination in the last 2 years.
  • Length should be at least 1000 words.
  • Write in US English, not UK English, i.e. miles not kilometers, while not whilst, color not colour, favor not favour, traveler not traveller, friends not mates, etc.
  • Submit between one and five good quality horizontal jpeg photographs (1200 px width) and one vertical photo for Pinterest with your finished piece; if you are submitting more than two photos, please use Dropbox and send that link.  Please include a statement at the end of your article that the photography is your own, and in submitting for publication you guarantee that you own the copyright and indemnify Luggage and Lipstick from any copyright claims that may arise.
  • Do not send photos obtained from a third party site such as Shutterstock or Creative Commons.
  • If you have received any payments or comps associated with the trip or experience you are writing about, include a disclaimer at the end of the story.
  • Please thoroughly proofread for spelling and grammar errors and/or omissions and run through a program such as Grammerly.  If your piece needs editing, it will be rejected.
  • Submit the article as a Word document attached to an email with “Submission: [article title]” in the subject line.
  • Format article in Times New Roman font, 12 pt, left-justified, single-spaced, no paragraph indenting, no boldface type, no photos embedded in the copy.
  • Break into sections with headings, but do not make the headings larger than 12 pt, do not bold, underline, or use a different color.
  • We do not allow links within the post — that would be a sponsored post, and may also compete with existing articles.
  • We reserve the right to add affiliate links.
  • Send a brief bio, headshot photo, and (dofollow) link to your blog/website to be included at the end of your piece if you like.

Note: we do not publish “puff pieces” only aimed at giving someone a link.  If you want to advertise on our site, please contact us specifically about that.

We reserve the right to add affiliate and other links to the post.

We regret that we cannot pay for guest posts at this time but hope to change that in the near future.

Sponsored Posts

Sponsored posts relevant to Baby Boomer adventure travel will be considered.  If your pitch is approved, and content accepted, your piece will be placed after payment of $400 is made (in line with industry guidelines of DA x 10).  Writing criteria is the same as above.

Payments are excepted through PayPal ONLY.

Please submit your story to Patti Morrow, Editor:  luggageandlipstick@gmail.com.
