Hot Air Balloon

Floating above Vilnius in a hot air balloon feels like drifting through a living postcard. Filtered sunlight sparkles across the city, shining on green parks, hidden courtyards, and historic neighborhoods. The silence is magical, broken only by the occasional (sometimes scary) burst of the burner. From this sky-high vantage point, every detail seems more vivid and enchanting. Note: Vilnius is the only capital in Europe that allows regular hot air balloon flights directly over its UNESCO old town.

Cooking Class

The classes are held in the gorgeous mid-century modern home of a delightful couple. During the class, we made a traditional three-course dinner featuring:

• Šaltibarščia – a cold pink soup, similar to Borscht. It is made with beetroots, kefir (cultured fermented milk), diced cucumbers, fresh dill, and spring onions, served with a garnish of halves of a hard-boiled egg on top. It is usually eaten alongside steaming hot, buttered potatoes.
• Cepelinai (aka Zeppelins) – potato dumplings that are considered the national dish of Lithuania. They are made from a mix of grated raw potatoes and riced cooked potatoes, which creates a uniquely chewy, dense texture. They are traditionally stuffed with seasoned ground meat (like pork or beef).The Toppings: Once boiled, they are typically served piping hot w) and topped with a rich, savory sauce made of sour cream, onions, and crispy bacon.
• Bulvytė – a no-bake chocolate and biscuit dessert shaped to resemble a small potato.  They are made from crushed biscuits, condensed milk, cocoa powder, and sometimes rum or brandy flavoring. The mixture is rolled into the shape of a small potato, coated in cocoa, and chilled.

Day Trips

Trakai Castle

Trakai Castle looks like something lifted straight from a fairy tale, rising dramatically from the sparkling waters of Lake Galve. Located less than an hour from Vilnius, the island fortress dazzles visitors with red-brick towers, wooden bridges, and breathtaking lakeside scenery. Walking through the castle grounds reveals fascinating exhibitions about Lithuania’s medieval rulers and the region’s rich cultural heritage.

The surrounding area is equally enchanting, with peaceful boat rides, forest trails, and cozy lakeside restaurants serving traditional kibinai pastries. During summer, colorful boats drift across the lake while the castle reflects beautifully in the calm water below. Trakai offers a magical escape filled with history, nature, and unforgettable scenery.

Hill of Crosses

The Hill of Crosses is one of Lithuania’s most hauntingly beautiful and spiritually moving destinations. Up to 300,000 crosses blanket a small hill, creating an extraordinary landscape filled with emotion, faith, and resilience. Visitors walking along the narrow pathways hear crosses gently clinking together in the wind, adding an eerie yet peaceful atmosphere to the experience.

Over generations, people have placed crosses here as symbols of hope, remembrance, and resistance during difficult periods of Lithuanian history. The site feels deeply personal and reflective, encouraging quiet contemplation among visitors from around the world. Vilnius TV Tower rises dramatically above the city skyline and offers some of the most spectacular views in Lithuania. Visitors can ascend to the observation level where panoramic windows reveal sweeping views of forests, rivers, and the sprawling city below. And for the braver at heart, strap yourself into a harness and walk “on the edge!”

One of the highlights is the rotating restaurant, where diners can slowly watch the scenery change while enjoying a meal high above the city. The tower is especially mesmerizing after dark when Vilnius sparkles beneath the night sky. Cepelinai – (aka zeppelins) Large potato dumplings stuffed with meat or cheese and topped with creamy sauce and crispy bacon.

Saltibarsciai – A bright pink cold beet soup served with fresh herbs, cucumbers, and boiled potatoes for a refreshing summer meal.

Kibinai – Flaky pastries traditionally filled with seasoned meat and baked until golden and delicious.

Kepta duona – Crispy fried rye bread strips often served with garlic and melted cheese alongside local beer.

Bulviniai blynai – Savory potato pancakes with a crispy exterior and soft center, commonly paired with sour cream.
