History
Owner Lark Elliott, an avid biker, used to ride past the Tuxedo Falls area and always admired the multiple waterfalls on the property visible from the road. When the property came up for sale, she was interested. However, the deed contained problematic restrictions. With her background in finance, Lark worked with the seller and local government agencies to have the restrictions lifted, and thereafter purchased the property. She and her husband, Tom, began development of the resort.
There are currently six glamping sites, with six more in the works.
Accommodations
Accommodations at Tuxedo Falls Resort strike a balance between rustic charm and modern comfort. Guests can choose from cozy cabins, elegant lodges, and unique treehouses, each thoughtfully designed to highlight the surrounding natural beauty. Expect wood interiors, stone fireplaces, large windows, and private decks overlooking forest or waterfall views.
The Warbler Treehouse
The treehouses offer an elevated experience, quite literally, immersing guests in the canopy for a secluded and memorable stay.
Designed and built by the Tree House Guys (a DIY Network TV show that specializes in custom, high-end treehouses in nature’s canopy), all units feature full kitchens, soaking tubs, and comfortable gathering spaces, making them ideal for romantic getaways or peaceful retreats surrounded by nature.
Mica Glamping Tent
The glamping tents, built by Bushtec Safari, are larger and offer a bit more luxury than the treehouse, which tend to be more unique and quirky (one has a swing inside!). Both options are fantastic, and depend on the guests’ tastes.
Both types of luxury glamping offer heat, air conditioning, fully-equipped kitchens, spacious showers, luxury bedding, outdoor grill and pizza oven, outdoor bathtub, and more.
Exploring the Grounds
There’s no shortage of ways to spend your time on the property, especially if you enjoy hiking. A network of well-maintained trails winds through the forest, ranging from short, gentle walks to longer, more immersive routes. Some paths follow the sound of rushing water, leading to scenic overlooks and intimate spots along the falls.
In contrast, others climb gradually through dense woods for elevated views of the surrounding mountains. Along the way, you’ll cross wooden footbridges, pass moss-covered rocks, and find quiet places perfect for pausing and taking it all in.
Hemlock Trail
Early mornings often bring mist rising through the trees, while evenings offer a golden glow filtering through the canopy. Guests can also enjoy yoga by the water, relax with a book on a private deck, or take advantage of picnic areas nestled in nature. Wildlife sightings are common, adding a sense of wonder to each day. The experience at Tuxedo Falls Resort is less about packed schedules and more about slowing down and savoring each moment.
The rustic lodge offers guests a range of options, including a cozy bar for card games or casual conversation, a fire pit for s’mores, and a large area with stunning views that can be booked for events.

It’s also a prime spot for hawk watching during migration season, making it a must-visit for nature lovers.
Dupont State Forest

(45 min.) The Cradle of Forestry is nestled in the Pisgah National Forest and is considered to be the birthplace of forestry in America and home to the country’s first forestry school. You can discover the profession’s history and roots at the Cradle Discovery Center and in the surrounding grounds.
Looking Glass Falls
(50 min.) Looking Glass Falls is one of the most accessible and picturesque waterfalls in the region. Just steps from the parking area, visitors can enjoy its powerful cascade and even wade into the cool waters below. It’s a quick but rewarding stop for travelers.

North Carolina Arboretum
